public, other museums and the commerical sector.
Collection Enquiries
Verulamium Museum holds in store the excavation records and archaeological
material for most excavations within the district, and the accompanying
excavation reports. Access to this material for academic purposes
can be arranged by contacting David

Access to objects in the social and local history collections can
be arranged by contacting Claire
Thornton on 01727 751822. Prior booking is
essential.
Object Identification
We work closely with local metal detectorists
to encourage responsible use and can assist in a number of different
ways. One of these is our free object identification
service available to any members of the public.
Library
Verulamium Museum's library holds two and a half thousand volumes
relating to local and national archaeological sites, site reports,
museum catalogues, syllogues, reference books, and journals, as
well as a large number of general archaeological and historical
works. To view any of the museum's library of books, call 01727

The Museum of St. Albans also has an extensive
library of reference books. Access by appointment can be arranged
by contacting 01727 819340. Prior booking is essential.
Lectures
and Talks
Museum staff are available to give talks to local societies and organisations
about their work and that of the Museums Service. Advance booking
is essential and travel expenses and a fee are expected. Call Gladys Cummings on 01727 751820. We also have touring
exhibitions that are available on loan.
